Dissolution Mechanism of Intermetallic Layer by Iron Erosion in Aluminum-Based Molten Binary Alloys

نویسندگان

چکیده

Erosion testing was conducted on iron specimens in various aluminum-based molten binary alloys, and the correspondence between intermetallic compounds formed at contact interface thermodynamically stable phases examined. On basis of results, mechanism dominant factor dissolution layers were investigated. Although erosion ratio by Al–3%Mn alloy significantly small, ratios alloys Al–Si system great, comparison to those other melts. Meanwhile, identified EBSD corresponded based equilibrium calculation compositions analyzed EDS and/or pseudo phase diagrams aluminum alloy-Fe systems. In addition, there a positive correlation experimental rate apparent saturation solubility Fe melts diagrams. These results suggest that caused almost same as phenomena described Noyes-Whitney-Nernst equation, is affecting diffusion-controlled from solid-liquid interfaces under local equilibrium.

An Investigation of the Microstructure of an Intermetallic Layer in Welding Aluminum Alloys to Steel by MIG Process

Butt joints of A5052 aluminum alloy and SS400 steel, with a new type of chamfered edge, are welded by means of metal inert gas welding and ER4043 Al-Si filler metal. The microhardness and microstructure of the joint are investigated. An intermetallic layer is found on the surface of the welding seam and SS400 steel sheet. The hardness of the intermetallic layer is examined using the Vickers har...

Vibrational Entropy Contributions to the Phase Stability of Iron- and Aluminum-Based Binary Alloys

This work considers phonon entropy effects on phase stability of three binary alloys: Fe-Cr, FeAl, and Al-Ag. In all cases the vibrational entropy plays an interesting role. The phonon density of states was measured on body-centered cubic Fe0.50Cr0.50 prepared as a solid solution, and in increasingly un-mixed states induced by annealing the solid solution at 773 K. Mössbauer spectrometry was us...

EFFECT OF A CHLORIDE FLUX ON THE DISSOLUTION OF Mn-Al COMPACTS IN MOLTEN ALUMINUM

Abstract: Dissolution and recovery of Mn-Al compacts with and without a chloride flux was studied by taking samples from the melt after addition of the compact. Events occurring after the addition of the compacts into the melt were studied using water quenched specimens after holding them for a specified time in molten state. The cross sections of these specimens were characterized by SEM a...

Twinned dendrite growth in binary aluminum alloys

The formation of twinned dendrites (feathery grains) in binary Al–Zn, Al–Mg, Al–Cu and Al–Ni alloys has been studied in specimens directionally solidified under identical thermal conditions, i.e. G 100 K cm , v 1 mm s , and with slight natural convection in the melt. The influence of the solute element nature and content has been found to be of less importance than previously reported since fea...

بررسی تشکیل ترکیبات بین‌‌فلزی در ریخته‌گری مرکب دوفلزی مس و آلومینیوم

The purpose of this article is to study the formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) at the interface of Al/Cu bimetal produced by compound casting of molten Al in solid copper tubes. The mechanism of the intermetallic compounds formations at the interface, the effects of molten aluminum pouring temperature and solid copper tubes preheating tempreture, were investigated on the IMCs type...
